Bach’s cello suites no original manuscript exists, only varying transcriptions. The design of the CD box reflects Gavriel Lipkind’s visionary and spiritual approach as well as his reinterpretation of the suites as a cycle. At the same time the design pays tribute to the music’s decidedly Baroque origin. This is the first piece of a special CD edition whose individual components were conceived as unique “objects of desire”. To meet necessary marketing requirements the individual elements are housed in a slipcase featuring a portrait of the artist. The Solitude Cycle Project

ENTRY:
8 Composers residing with Gavriel at the Solitude Castle in Stuttgart will compose works for cello solo on the theme SOLITUDE.
The compositions will be performed as a stand-alone concert program, on SACD, and featured in a film. For more informations click here Other contributors are: The architecht Carla Laitao (US, Portugal) who is constructing a modular stage on which the cycle will be performed The choreograph and dancer Hans-Werner Klohe who will improvise on the works and whose video will be integrated in the construction, and visual artists from the Schloss, who will design the project's presentation. The official opening premiere performance will take place in the Ludwigsburger Festspiele in Ludwigsburger Schloss on the 22th of June, 2007. Gavriel will be staying at the Solitude Castle in Stuttgart for few months starting in November. Two video productions of commissioned works by Marton Illes and Aviya Kopelman will take place at the castle.

Kevin Volans' Cello Concerto WEB:

On 31/01/06, Gavriel will perform the new version of Volans' Cello Concerto for RTE Dublin. The demanding cello part, taking advantage of Kevin's fluency in African poly-rhythm and devotion to structural integrity, is now revised into a boiling moto perpetuo -like cello monolog.
