Meister Edgar Jansen
In Edgar's own words: "...The first time I met Gavriel was many years ago at the backstage of the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam: The young Israeli cellist was still sweating from the recital and my hands were black from charcoal and other art materials. I was impressed by the passion of his music and the virtuosity and the style of playing. I showed Gavriel my sketches of his performance. He was very excited about my work. Gabi and I became friends ever since. My drawing has even been used for the cover of his cd 'Miniatures and Folklore'..." "...Seated with a sketchbook on the first row, I let myself be inspired by classical music and dance performances. I am trying to catch movement and sound in my sketches. I am not only drawing what I see, but also what I hear. Music can take away the constraints of the drawing technique..." "...I just let my hand go and follow the music..." Edgar is a dear dear friend of mine and one of the truest masters I have had the honour to meet. A modest, autonomously inspired, beautiful person. I wouldn’t even know how to start describing him to you. If you want to see more music drawings by Edgar visit his website (click on the right of his name at the top-right of this page) |
